Rewa Rugby Union manager Ratu Sakiusa Secake believes their weekly competition contributes to the development of players for their main team.

“The main aim for Rewa is to develop players who can represent the core team that is currently taking part in the Vodafone Vanua Championship,” he said.

Secake said the overall focus is for Rewa to qualify for the Skipper Cup where they compete amongst the big teams in the country.

“So in order for the main team to be strong they need to build players up from the weekly competitions. These competitions help develop these boys so that they can become really good players, game time is very important. Playing consistently will make any player good so that is what we are trying to do by having these weekly competitions.

“The competition has also grown as four teams from Tailevu have joined us, Lomanisau, Vuci, Kabuleka, Kiuva and Naduku.

“This is really good because this boosts competition as well and we are into our eighth round so everything has been running smoothly.”

Meanwhile, Vunitavola retained the Vanua Trophy by beating Danudanu 13-8.

In other results, Nacokoni 9-10 Vitiasoro, Dreketi 0-24 Lomainasau, Batikiri 5-0 Nokonoko, Kabuleka 7-12 Kiuva, Nakorolevu 5-0 Navokai, Burenivalu 8-6 Nukui, Naduku 13-18 Vuci.
