Pacific Energy Kinoya Sea Eagles rugby league side edged out Army Reds 16-12 in the fourth round of the Vodafone Cup competition at Suva Grammar School grounds yesterday.

Kinoya’s Delai Lalabalavu scored the opening try in the first half as they followed it up with a second try to Patrick Raiyawa. Their third try was scored by Leveni Turagakula while Sitiveni Bure and Inoke Vasuturaga kicked in the conversions. Army’s Jovesa Kunawave and Aquila Senibici scored a try each while Ilikena Niumataiwalu converted both tries.

Sea Eagles coach Viliame Turagaiviu said despite having young players in the team they still managed to win.

“I’m pleased with the player’s performance,” he told SUNsports.

“This is our third game and as coach I‘ve seen the boys are adapting well to the game of rugby league and during each game the players have gained a lot more experience and are confident when playing under pressure. We’ve identified areas which we need to work on especially on our tackles,” Turagaiviu said.

Army coach Sevanaia Koroi said they failed to perform to expectation and their defence let them down.

“We had prepared well but we made a lot of mistakes during the game especially with our defence which was our major drawback,” the former Fiji Bati centre added.

Results: Topline Warriors 2- 14 Police Sharks, Nabua Broncos 26 – 6 Lami Steelers, USP Islanders 16 – 12 City Storms, Davuilevu Knights 12 – 14 Makoi Bulldogs, Pacific Energy Kinoya Sea Eagles 16 – 12 Army Reds.
