Taveuni Champs

The Lekesio Vakarorogo-captained Taveuni side created history by being the first team from Vanua Levu to win the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s title at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

The Lekesio Vakarorogo-captained Taveuni side created history by being the first team from Vanua Levu to win the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s title at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

The side hammered Kombat Uluinakau 15-0 in the Cup final scoring three unanswered tries.

Player of the tournament Anare Tevita scored a try in each half. His try in the second half was splendid when he leapfrogged his opposite number and dashed to score untouched.

The side returned home to the Garden Island $15,000 richer. Six of the players played for the 2017 Coral Coast 7s champions First Light Taveuni.

They are Finau Silio, Varo Mesake, Tomasi Ralulu, Leone Lomolomo, Alesio Vakaroro and Anare Tevita.

“We decided to join Taveuni with some new players,” Vakarorogo aid.

Rover Vakaroro thanked God forthe win.

“The majority of the boys are farmers from Taveuni and two are AFL firefighters in Nadi. It is history in the making for the boys.

“We want to thank our supporters from Lavena in Taveuni. It was through God we were able to do this.”

The Viliame Satala-captained WAF Oldies retained their title beating Big Bula 12-0 in the final.

Coastline Ratu Filise won the Under 19 grade over Togobula 14-10.
