Mother’s Day was a grand celebration at the Golden Age Home in Natabua, Lautoka, yesterday.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.

Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Josefa Koroivueta, was part of the celebration and presented gifs to elderly mothers at the home.

A youth group sang songs for them and a nice lunch treat was provided. There were many other people who brought gifts as well and joined them for lunch.

Dr Koroivueta assured the residents that the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation would always be there for them.

“We are here for your care, welfare, well-being and whatever resources it takes to see that your stay in the home is enabling,” he said.

“To the children who are here today, please value them. They are a source of wisdom, care, hope and trust in your life. When they are gone, they are gone.

“Mothers are special and without mothers, generations will never exist, humanity will never populate us and that is fact of life.”
