The women’s teams were impressive in round three of the AFL Fiji Powerade Cup competition at Albert Park, Suva on Saturday.

AFL Fiji coach and development officer Simon Highfield said the women’s teams are showing signs of improvement in each round of competition.

“The competition was really good, I think the men’s was a bit one sided but what caught my attention is how well the women are doing,” Highfield said.

“I think they displayed some classy footie and you can really tell they are trying their best and training hard because it shows on the field.

“This goes down to our development programme for the women and giving them game time is really helping them improve. The commitment they show and eagerness to be out there and compete is very refreshing and we are really glad that we are able to have these competitions for them.

“They are turning out to be good footballers and I know we will be seeing continued improvement from them as the weeks go by.

“Competitions will obviously get tougher as it goes on but the competitiveness will do these players some good.”

The Central Crows beat Lion Raiders 24-7 in the women’s category. Meanwhile, in other results, defending champions Raiwaqa Crows thrashed City Lions 131-1 while it came down to the wire for West Coast Sea Eagles who managed to beat Nausori Cats 76-50 in the men’s division. The fourth round of competitions for the Powerade Cup will continue this weekend.
