Women’s Plea To A-G

Budget submissions for the redevelopment of the Korovou Hospital in Tailevu will be handed to the Ministry of Economy this week.

This comes after Tailevu North Women’s orgnisation president, Liga Savo, asked the Atorney General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, to look into the conditions of the hospital.

Speaking at the Budget Consultations at the Tailevu North College in Korovou at the weekend, Ms Savo told the Attorney-General that the Korovou Hospital’s administration building, outpatient department, dental clinic and children’s ward was not up to standard. She said the hospital needed an upgrade to have proper services provided for the people.

The Attorney-General asked the women’s group to hand in their written submissions before the end of the week.

Meanwhile, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum is concerned with the issues raised against Police officers in Korovou, after a taxi driver alleged that Police officers in Korovou Town were biased and not transparent.

James Nand claims Police officers were being unfair because they continued to allow illegal operators to operate in the town.

Mr Nand also mentioned names of Police officers and an illegal operator whom he claims was feared by drivers in the town because no complaints made against him were investigated.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said it was unfortunate that some Government agencies and ministries have people who were not doing the right thing and apologised for what was happening.

The matter is expected to be discussed with the Commissioner of Police.

Other submissions included the relocation of the Korovou bus stand where Mr Sayed-Khaiyum confirmed with the Minister for Local Government, Parveen Bala, that land discussions were underway with landowners.

Other issues raised were flooding in low-lying areas such as the Deepwater Settlement, grants for Macko House Women’s group and a Dalo Farmers group from Tailevu North requested that Government upgraded their farm roads.

The next Budget consultation will be held tomorrow at Suvavou House, Level 9, in Suva from 6.30pm.
