The Fiji Council of Churches (FCC) commends the initiative by Fiji Oceans Champion and Minister of Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau and the Department of Environment to develop legislation to reduce the use of plastic bags.

President of Methodist Church in Fiji and Chair of the Fiji Council of Churches Reverend Tevita Banivanua said that there was a need for all Fijians, irrespective of denomination or faith to make a concerted effort to stop polluting our land and oceans.

Reverend Banivanua said the FCC looked forward to discussing with government and other stakeholders to work together to not only address the plastic bag issue but the wider issue of care for the environment.
