A Domestic Violence Restraining Order also issued

A man charged with sexually assaulting his 16-year-old niece last year was granted bail yesterday by the Labasa Magistrates Court.

The 63-year-old is alleged to have committed the crime between November 1 to 31, last year.

Appearing before resident Magistrate Senileba Levaci, the accused was released under strict bail conditions.

“You are not to interfere with the prosecution witness, report to the Labasa Police station fortnightly starting from this Friday,” Magistrate Levaci said.

“You are not to change your residence and to report to court on the 17th of July.”

The accused is expected to take his plea on his next court appearance.

Police prosecutor Laniana Musuqawa said they had no objection to the bail application because the victim had moved to another province.

There is also a Domestic Violence Restraining Order in place for the accused who has been ordered by the Court not to try and contact the victim at any time.
