Cuvu is buzzing again with a carnival this week.

Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will be the chief guest at the Bula Night tonight.

Tonight’s programme starts at 7pm at FSC Ground in Cuvu, Sigatoka. It will feature, cultural dances, fire dances and a fashion show.

Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala will be chief guest on Saturday night (Cuvu Night) to close the carnival.

Tomorrow night is Bollywood Night and chief guest is the Officer-in-Charge of Sigatoka Police Station.

Friday night is Cuvu College Night where Iliesa Delana, Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, will be the chief guest.

Carnival organiser, Kulsum Nisha, said this was a social gathering for all those connected to Cuvu.

Ms Nisha said the main aim was to promote cultural unity, community loyalty and have fun.

She now lives in Sydney with her family, but comes to Fiji every year to organise the carnival.

She is a medical student and works as a healthcare practitioner at Sydney Hospital.

“It’s a time for friends and families from around the world to come together.

“We live abroad, but we are strongly connected to our roots back home here in Fiji,” Ms Nisha said.

“It gives us a chance to reunite, cherish the memories and keep in touch with our motherland.

“This event is not for fundraising, but it is a social gathering to promote cultural unity and community loyalty.”

The highlight of the entertainment is the fashion show by Sabrina Begum, originally from Cuvu, now residing in New Zealand.

She works as a model in the fashion industry and a freelance makeup artist.
