The Labasa Sangam College will now be able to meet the demand of the increasing number of students after four new classrooms were opened yesterday.

The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Mahendra Reddy officially opened the classrooms, which were built at a cost of $356,000.

Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam Northern branch president Shalen Chetty said with the initiative of Free Education Grant (FEG) by Government and the approved grant by Mr Reddy, they managed to build four new classrooms.

“These classrooms are not only to meet the demand of increasing number of students, but also to develop modern classrooms that are more appealing for students to study in,” Mr Chetty said.

“Since the formation of Sangam in 1926, TISI Sangam continues to develop in the education sector.

“We have secured two acres of land beside our school building. Currently, we are carrying out a feasibility study to build a multipurpose hall and a swimming pool for our students.

Mr Reddy said: “I want to thank the leadership of the school for keeping up the school brand name.

“I want all schools to be like Labasa Sangam College and Labasa College.

“I don’t want parents to come to fight for space in Labasa Sangam College or Labasa College.

“Why can’t our other schools be like these schools?

“We got teachers from the same universities, same curriculum and same exam papers.

“The difference is quality infrastructure and quality leadership.

“We are trying our best to ensure quality infrastructure, but quality leadership is bestowed on those that we have appointed in the school system.”
