The Vanuavatu, Lau, native and Crusaders winger Manasa Mataele feels emotional as he anticipates his first Super Rugby battle against the Gallagher Chiefs at the ANZ Stadium.

This would be the 20-year-old’s first Super Rugby game at home and feels proud to play in front of his people.

“I feel emotional and excited coming here and playing in front of my family and the fans.

“Last year I watched them come here but this year for me to be here is a very emotional moment for me,” Mataele said.

The former Marist Brothers High School student has vowed to do his best.

“First year in Super Rugby and as a 20 year old I’m just going to work hard and score tries.”

Yasawa-i-Rara native Tamanivalu who donned the Chiefs jumper here at home last year believes his performance tonight is no different from last year.

“I’m looking forward to play the Chiefs, last year I played for them but this year I’m playing a different team. We are working hard and hopefully we get the result.

“We are here to make our families proud.”

Crusaders assistant head coach Jason Ryan applauded the involvement of the Fijians in the team.

“They both going really well, they good characters their experience in Super Rugby is helping us.

“We really appreciate if the boys express themselves, they have been doing very well so credit to them,” Ryan said.

Ryan also believes the Chiefs forwards will be tough upfront.

“Chiefs will bring us another twist as well it’s a step up, they apply a physical battle and we need is to match that and we are looking forward to the challenge,” Ryan added.

The assistant coach encourages the Crusaders supporters to come out in numbers.

“Asking all our fans to come and support Crusaders.”

The gate opens at 4pm.
