With Heartfelt Condolence
Peter Fuata.

Peter Fuata joined the HFC Bank Family in February 2014 as the First Treasurer of the Bank (An Executive Position). He etched his name in the History of the Bank as he joined at an exciting phase where we were embarking our journey to become a commercial Bank.

Mr Fuata contribution to HFC Bank is enormous and beyond description. His natural talent of strategy formulation and the financial markets coupled with his passion was instrumental in establishing the first ever Treasury and Foreign Exchange Division of the Bank. He did this with minimal resources available.

He was a believer and he believed in his people, he was more than a mentor and colleague to everyone at the Bank. Seeing his team transform was an achievement he was very proud of. He once told his mum, in his exact word, “Mum I don’t have to worry about work, I have trained my team so well. They know what to do”.

Spanning with more than 25 years of experience in Banking Industry, Mr Fuata joined HFC Bank from ANZ Bank where he last held the position of Manager Operations Initiatives. At ANZ Bank, he was known to be the recipient of the prestigious awards such as the Chief Executive Officer’s award for ANZ Group – Outstanding Contributions to ANZ Treasury, Vanuatu Market where he was the Head of Markets – South East Region.  As a result of him leading teams across multiple countries and achieving top 100 employee awards. ANZ South East Region (Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga and Cooks) and Fiji.

He was loved by his clients, he established a great reputation in Fiji and the Pacific with Governments, Central Banks, Non-government Organisations and commercial & corporate clients. This he showcased through establishing a sound network for HFC Bank to deal in multicurrency across countries.

He had the capabilities and talent to hold regional roles but his passion was to work and give back to his country, hence he joined HFC bank being Fiji’s very own local Bank. Mr Fuata was very passionate and he contributed not only to the area of treasury but overall to the strategic goals for HFC Bank.

He had recently completed his Master’s of Business Administration from the University of the South Pacific (USP) which he pursued after joining HFC Bank.   He also held a Diploma of Financial Services from the Australian Financial Markets Association (AFMA) and a Certificate in Banking from Fiji Institute of Bankers. He was also a Professional Member of the following bodies; Australian Financial Markets Association and the Fiji Institute of Bankers.

On a personal side, Mr Fuata was known to be a very jovial person, strong sense of humor and witty at

times. Brilliance was in his simplicity and humility.

He would make great deals in the dealing room and his connection’s span globally. He was a very valuable member of the Bank.

Our Customers will sorely miss Peter. He would have solutions ready. Peter will always hold a place in our hearts at HFC Bank and will always be remembered.

On behalf of the Board Chairman Tom Ricketts and directors, Shareholders FNPF and Unit Trust of Fiji we extend our deepest and  sincere condolences to his family, his mum, his spouse Ana Fuata, his children Lenard, Jordan, Jerome, Edward and his only daughter Grace and to his wider family and friends.
