Aotearoa Maori defeated Schools Sports Australia 40 – 28 in the final of the Digicel Punjas International Secondary Schools Netball Challenge at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday.

Coach Rebecca Gabel was overwhelmed with the performance and dedicated the win to their families and supporters.

“I’m speechless and I can’t describe my feeling right now,” Gabel said.

“It is extremely a huge moment for the girls to play against the Australian team.

“All the hard work has finally paid off as the girls have played their hearts out throughout the week and I am grateful.

“It’s been two years since we last won a major tournament and I’m grateful to the girls for making it possible.”

RESULTS:

Semi-final: Aotearoa Maori 36 – 21 Fiji Under 19, School Sports Australia 35 – 31 Auckland Samoa.

7th/ 8th playoff: Fijiana FANZ 38 – 35 Australian Budgies;

5th/6th: Auckland Tonga 33 – 28 South Africa Schools;

3rd/ 4th: Fijian Under -19 25 – 40 Auckland Samoa

Final: Aotearoa Maori 40 – 28 Schools Sports Australia.
