Rewa was on fire after thrashing Rakiraki 5-0 at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

 

What happened: Coming off scoreless on day one, hosts Rewa scored an early goal in the 9th minute through Gabrieli Matanisiga to lead 1-0.

In the 25th minute, Samuela Kautoga extended Rewa’s lead, 2-0.

Rakiraki had opportunities to score from several free kicks, but all attempts were way off the mark.

In the 35th minute, Iosefo Verevou netted a classic goal, 3-0.

Three minutes before halftime Verevou scored the fourth goal, 4-0

Rewa continued their dominance with Matanisiga scoring his second, 5-0. Rakiraki could not take control of the ball long enough to produce anything as Rewa took it off them more.

 

Big play: Rewa showcased good football.

 

Star turn: Rakiraki goalkeeper Saimoni Nabogi made some crucial saves.

Rewa coach Marika Rodu: “I take my hat off to Rakiraki as they played really well despite the loss. They created opportunities and really made us work.

“The game was great, but the boys need to keep stepping up and doing our best.”

Rakiraki secretary Jay Krishna: “It was a good game. Rewa is more experienced as they had the height and skill advantage.

“The boys will use this tournament as a build-up because our focus is the Vodafone Premier League.”
