Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival committee president Satish Kumar on Saturday reminded the people of the North to partner with the Police to protect their families and property from criminal elements.

As the build up for the carnival scheduled for June 24 to July 1 intensifies, Mr Kumar is reminding members of the Northern communities to speak up against the threat of and criminal activities.

“We are calling on members of the community in the North to come forth and take the partnership with Police in our fight to stop crime,” he said.

“It is very important that we as community members work with the law enforcers to keep our communities safe.

“You have a duty to protect yourself, your family, your properties and others by being the eyes and ears of the Police so call the police.”

He said people were being more vocal today by alerting Police when they were victimised.

“The youths have learnt or the victims know what they are supposed to do and that is why you must have seen the child and sex reports abuse going up. Before they used to hide all these things and they were frightened to go to the Police,” he said.

“We have conducted our meeting, preparation is on and we have eight queens, five kings as well teens and princesses.”
