Yat Sen Secondary School’s Christie Kalouniviti is confident of a good outing at the Fiji National Schools Swimming Championship which starts at the National Aquatic Centre, Suva on Friday.

Kalouniviti told SUNsports yesterday that she is aiming to win a gold medal. The 13-year-old, Bua lass started swimming competitively at the age of 10.

“I’m feeling excited to represent my school,” she said.

“I’m going for a gold medal and I hope to make a name for myself as this will be my first year competing in the secondary school level.

“Swimming to me is a fun activity. My greatest inspiration is Missy Franklin because she is the best swimmer and currently holds the world record in the 200 metres backstroke. I also encourage other people to take up swimming as it will be good for them in terms of health and also help reduce the drowning rate.”
