The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) Chief Executive Officer John Hutchinson has confirmed that the maintenance of Fiji’s current streetlights portfolio has been awarded to four local contractors.

The contracts have been awarded to Power Electric Limited, Pacific Electric, Engineer Procure Construct and Tanoa Electrical Works.

“The FRA has over 9000 streetlights around Fiji and as a result the streetlights maintenance contracts have been packaged in seven clusters covering different areas throughout Fiji and the contracts are being let for a period of one year,” Mr Hutchinson said.

He said these contracts were aimed to encourage the local Fijian contractors the opportunity to provide the service and compete for increased job opportunity which will contribute to Fiji’s economy.

“The whole process has taken longer than anticipated, however the FRA wanted to ensure that the decisions were transparent and that the people of Fiji were receiving the best possible value for money.”

“The immediate priority for these contractors is to attend to approximately 500 outstanding calls over the course of three weeks and then roll into the routine maintenance work that will include new complaints logged.”

Members of the public are advised to contact FRA directly on 5720 to log all streetlight faults.

NB:

The Streetlights programme budget for the 16-17 financial year:

 Maintenance – $4.3 million

 Renewals – $3.2 million

 New Capitals – $10.7 million
