Waisea Motonivalu was sentenced to nine years and seven months imprisonment for aggravated robbery by the High Court in Suva yesterday.

And an eight-year and seven months non-parole term was also imposed.

Motonivalu, 32, appeared before Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.

He is also charged with the alleged murder of 46-year old fisherman, Jay Prasad, of Lokia Landing in Rewa, Nausori.

Motonivalu had pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated robbery, but pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.

His co-accused, Eroni Raivani, 24, and Niko Baleiwairiki, 21, were also charged with one count each of murder and aggravated robbery.

They pleaded not guilty to both charges.

It is alleged that the three men brutally assaulted the fisherman before stealing a 15 horsepower Yamaha outboard engine on January 1, this year.
