The Speaker to Parliament, Dr Jiko Luveni yesterday welcomed suspended SODELPA Opposition MP, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu back to Parliament.

However, the paramount chief of Cakaudrove wasn’t able to sit in for the entire day’s proceedings because of an illness.

Ratu Naiqama was suspended for two years from Parliament for uttering a slur against the Speaker in 2015.

Opposition Leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa said outside Parliament that they welcomed the return of Ratu Naiqama to Parliament.

“We looked forward to his return to Parliament, after his two years suspension and he has started today. We believe he has much to contribute although he has stated that he is not standing for the 2018 elections, we believe he has must to contribute between now and the elections proper,” she said.

Ro Teimumu added indigenous land issues had always been the main focus for SODELPA.

“Ratu Naiqama has been a staunch supporter of iTaukei rights, land resources and has been very vocal with human rights issues. I hope he will continue with that,” she said.
