Indian Minister of State for External Affairs, Retired General Dr Vijay Kumar Singh, arrived at the Nadi International Airport last night.

Attempts to speak to him at the airport were unsuccessful.

He is here to attend the India-Pacific Islands Sustainable Development Conference which opens at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva tomorrow and ends on Friday.

Top officials from governments in the region also arrived yesterday.

India will use this conference to analyse ways it could help 14 countries under Forum for India-Pacific Island Countries (FIPIC) including Fiji in areas such as transmitting renewable energy and disaster preparedness.

The conference is a forward agenda of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for FIPIC.
