The Nawaka District School of Nadi will be making their debut at the 2017 Fijian National Schools Swimming Championships at the Damodar Aquatic Center in Suva on Friday and Saturday.

Team manager Napolioni Vatunitu said the school will be fielding 29 participants.

“We will be taking 29 students, nine girls and 20 boys,” he said.

“Our aim is to participate and expose them.”

He thanked the parents and the school for allowing the students to participate at the event.

“We’ve introduced swimming classes this year, since Nawaka is a flood-prone area.

“We thought of taking up the initiative this year and to be part of the national championship as sports plays an integral role in the development of students.

“We don’t have any promising swimmers but we will try to bring out our best.”

He thanked the sponsors especially Nawaka Rugby Club, Radisson BLU Resort, Wyndham Hotel and Resort, Big Bula Water Park, Pacific Destinations, Flame Tree, Higgins, NDS Old Scholars, JK Builders and BSP.

“We are thankful to the sponsors including the properties on Denarau Island for coming along and sponsoring the teams’ goggles, cap, track and swim suits not forgetting the team’s transportation and marquee in Suva.”
