Unelco Visits WAF To Explore Partnership Opportunities

UNELCO’s Water Supply manager, Ghislain Kaltack and technical director, Toshihide Yasuda, visited the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) this week.
UNELCO is a private enterprise responsible for the supply of water and the production, transport and supply of electricity in Vanuatu’s capital, Port Vila.
The duo met with the WAF chief executive officer, Opetaia Ravai to discuss the possibility of future partnerships that could be formed between the two utilities.
In thanking Mr Kaltack and Mr Yasuda for their visit, Mr Ravai said: “We look forward in sharing ideas about new water technologies available that may help UNELCO and the people of Vanuatu.”
WAF’s manager, Strategic Planning Unit (SPU), Tevita Mau, gave the visitors an overview of WAF, its structure and strategic objectives.
This was followed by field visits to the Namau Water Treatment Plant site, the Tamavua National Control Centre and Water Treatment Plant, as well as the Kinoya Wastewater Treatment Plant.
“This visit gives us a better understanding of what the Water Authority of Fiji has in terms of water and wastewater services, and the opportunity to explore the potential for WAF and UNELCO to work together in future partnerships to share knowledge, techniques and create synergy through staff exchanges between the Vanuatu and Fiji utilities,” said Mr Kaltack.
Mr Kaltack and Mr Yasuda congratulated the authority for what it had achieved, and commended the WAF staff for their hard work.
