Airports Fiji Ltd (AFL) yesterday launched a National Artwork Competition encouraging Fijians of all ages to participate in showcasing their traditional and contemporary art at Nadi International Airport.

AFL executive chair Faiz Khan said the competition is divided into two categories with a total prize money of $17,000 which will be awarded to six winners.

Mr Khan said as the first and last impression of the country, Nadi International Airport would provide a home to showcase artwork for our visitors.

“The Airports Fiji Ltd – National Artwork Competition gives an opportunity to all Fijians to have a piece of their creativity showcased at Nadi International Airport, and other airports around Fiji.

Competition co-ordinator Christopher Chand said the two categories in the competition are traditional artwork and contemporary artwork.

“We will place emphasis on originality of work. People can do free hand drawing or even use computer generated imagery to depict Fiji,” Mr Chand said.

In addition AFL yesterday signed a partnership with the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation to be their media partner.

Fiji Broadcasting Corporation director sales and marketing Vijendra Kumar said: “This is a national competition.

“As a national broadcaster we want to tell all Fijians through our six radio and TV stations to take part in this first of its kind competition.”

Entries for the National Artwork Competition will close on July 18 after which three winners for each category would be selected.

Each gold winner will receive $5000, each silver winner will receive $2500 and each bronze winner will receive $1000.
