Judge Wants Case Of Former Pilot Who Allegedly Killed Partner To Start Soon

A High Court in Suva judge wants the trial for an ex-pilot, who allegedly murdered his de-facto partner at Howell Road in Suva in 2009, to begin soon.

ImshadIzrar Ali, who had absconded overseas and lived in India for seven years before being sent back appeared before Judge Justice Vincent Perera yesterday.

Ali’s lawyer, Anil Chand, was told to file submissions for voire dire for the matter as soon as possible by Justice Perera.

Mr Chand is to file his submissions before July 10.

Ali appeared in court yesterday to update the court on his request for medical attention while he was in custody.

He has a kidney disease for which he requires insulin daily.

Prosecution lawyer Shirley Tivau said the officer in charge at the Corrections facility had given an undertaking this week that the accused would be shifted to sick bay from the dormitory by today.

Mr Chand said his client was not being given the required amount of insulin each day.

It is alleged that in 2009 Ali murdered his de-facto partner at his home at Howell Road in Suva.

He was on a bail period when he fled to India claiming he was there for medical treatment and did not want to return because he was scared.

He had pleaded not guilty to his charge.
