A University of the South Pacific student yesterday was fine $100 for absconding bail.

Ratu Isikeli Nasogo Bakewa, 25, was ordered to pay a $100 fine with default to ten days imprisonment. His sentence was passed down by Suva Magistrate Kashyapa Wickramasekara.

He was charged with one count of absconding bail and failed to appear at the Suva Magistrates Court for mention on July 5, 2016.

A warrant for his arrest was issued by Suva Magistrate Makereta Mua on the same day.

Bakewa, on July 5, 2016, being an accused person was released on bail by Suva Magistrate Mua. He absconded bail and failed to surrender to custody without a reasonable excuse.
