The Fiji Society for the Blind launched its annual fundraising drive at the Kshatriya Hall on Thursday night.

At their corporate cocktail, chief guest Vodafone Fiji Sponsorship manager, Adriu Vakarau, donated $3000.

Mr Vakarau said Vodafone Fiji loved helping the society at large and they would continue with their support.

According to Fiji Society for the Blind board chairman Shaheen Asgar, the purpose for the fundraiser was to help blind and visually impaired students.

Mr Asgar said every year the society launched its annual appeal fundraising drive which goes on for three months.

He said in past years, the Fiji School for the Blind had received support from Government grants, Australian Aid and other corporate donor.

“We only request donors when we have special project,” he said.

Director Auto Care and Supreme Fuel, Kalpesh Kumar Patel, said for the past five years his company had been hosting the launch through a corporate cocktail and had raised around $100,000.

“The money raised is to meet the rising demands of educational and rehabilitation needs of the blind and visually impaired children and adults of Fiji.”

He said his company always donated $6000 to $8000 each year to the annual event.

“This is the good initiative and general public should turn up and support this worthy cause,” said Mr Patel.

About 200 people attended the launch and they managed to raise $10,000 through auction, sponsorship and donations.
