The Fiji Muslim League has announced that fasting for the month of Ramadhan 2017 will begin tomorrow.

This was confirmed after Fiji Muslim League official, Qaiyum Khan stated that no moon had been sighted last night. General secretary Saiyad Hussain also confirmed this in an announcement yesterday.

“Therefore fasting (saum/roz) for the month of Ramadhan will commence on May 28, 2017.”

Mr Khan had stated the possibility of the moon not being sighted due to unfavourable weather conditions.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of an auspicious and holy time of the year where the Mulims will fast.

The time table has been released for the period of fasting for next 30 days.

This annual observance is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

The month which lasts 29 to 30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon, according to numerous biographical accounts compiled in the hadiths

To mark the end of successful month of Ramadhan, the Eid al- fitr will be celebrated.
