A crowd turned out for the first exhibition of the 21K Art Gallery, held at 21 Knollys Street in Suva last Thursday.

The gathered crowded were treated to artwork from five established local artists whose art were a collected of local and international works.

The artists included William Bakalevu, Mason James Lee, Waqa Vuidreketi, Anare Somumu and Josua Toganivalu.

The name 21K is derived from the location of the art gallery. The main aim of the gallery is to promote the arts and the true value of the artists and their works.

There were 44 art pieces on display during the event.

“Promoting original contemporary Fijian works of art displays a strong sense of indigenous and cultural influence,” said 21K gallery director, William Toganivalu

The gallery had secured sponsorship from Tabs Investment, IT8 Solutions, Victoria Wines and the Department of Culture, Heritage and Arts.

On Friday about 30 students, who were taking part in this year’s Kula Film Awards, took a tour of the Gallery as well.

A solo exhibition by renowned artist, Lambert Ho will be held next month.
