The saying that with great sacrifice comes great achievement rings true for young swimmer, James Kado.

He set three new records in the Under-13 boys division during the Fiji National Schools Swimming Championship at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Suva.

It was a proud moment for the 13-year-old Marist Brothers High School student who had to sacrifice a lot leading up to championship.

Training under the guidance of national swimming champion Meli Malani, James had to endure the chilly morning conditions, waking up as early as 5am to head to the pool before donning his white uniform for classes. And later he has another pool session in the afternoon.

His commitment meant less time with friends and other leisure activities.

“It feels really good to have broken three records in this swimming championship,” James said.

“Personally, I wasn’t really expecting to break any of the records as my main motive was to improve my time but I am happy that I made it possible. I thank my family especially my mum and dad who had been my greatest inspiration and also my coach”
