Ratu Navula College Best Male cadet recipient Kemueli Raratabu on Friday said being instilled with discipline during the cadet training programme inspired him to pursue his schooling to greater heights.

The 14-year old from Nasauvuki Village in Moturiki was emotional while receiving the award from the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto at the school grounds in Nadi.

He said the award came as a surprise and he felt proud and honoured to receive the award from Rear Admiral Naupoto.

Commander of the parade and the Baton of Honour was awarded to Apisai Tovuga who acknowledged the Almighty God for giving him the strength and courage to lead the drills and manoeuvres for the 800 cadets.

“Leading more than 800 students was not an easy task, I was a bit nervous in the training but later on coming close to the day of the pass out parade I gained more confidence and believed that God would be guiding me through this responsibility,” he said.

The 18-year-old said the parade was a huge undertaking and he knew the skills he acquired would help him become a better person.

Meanwhile, Rear Admiral Naupoto in addressing the parade encouraged the students to work hard.

“To all the students, one day your time as students will end, and sadly when it ends it will never come back again and life is like a race that you can never re-run as you can only run it once,” he said.

“So whilst you are students, you should give it your best, because this is the only time you can give it your best. You only have one go at it, so work hard and don’t give up.”
