The pairs event got underway at the 10th Fiji Airways Sunny West Bowling Carnival pair event at the Nadi Sports and Social Club yesterday.

Inspiring Rick Eyre/ Curtis Mar defeated Steve Rice/ Scott Harris 15-8 but later they went down to Steve Oregon/Troy 13-8.

National reps David Aitcheson/ Rajnesh Prasad will be the team to beat after they recorded two wins.

Tournament chairman Eyre said the competition has begun with two rounds that got underway and bowlers are looking forward to another round of competition.

“Other national reps like Semesa Naiseruvatu and Ratish Lal are all in the running for the pool game of the pair’s competition,” he said.

In the ladies, Sheryl Mar/Loreta Kotoisuva, who are both national reps are on track with their campaign.

Australian pair Laurie Gulhot and Bill Taylor said they have not done well compared to last year where they were runners- up in the plate finals. “We continue to improve and are enjoying the competition and the friendly reception from the players,” said Gulhot.

Duo Ram Chand and Rajen Mani are finding the competition tough.

“Some of them are from overseas, some amateurs and they are all playing well, but we are really enjoying the stiff competition,” Chand said.

The second day of competition gets underway today at 8am.
