Sainimili Davelevu fought hard to hold back tears after she was honoured on Saturday with the outstanding leadership award during the Fiji Red Cross Labasa Branch awards night.

Ms Davelevu, who is also the branch president and has been a volunteer for the past nine years, said she never regretted her decision to join the Fiji Red Cross Society.

“I am at peace when I do work that helps others, I feel I have given back to the community,” she said.

“Lending a hand and putting a smile on their face impacts them greatly.”

Ms Davelevu said there was still a lot of work that needed to be done in the communities. She was proud to lead a team of passionate volunteers who ensured that the service they provided would continue to rise to a whole new level.

“I continue to be grateful for what they have done. And the awards night was our tiny way to thank them for a wonderful work,” she said.

She is urging members of the community in the North to join their volunteer team.

Ms Davelevu was also presented the most outstanding female volunteer award.
