A 35-year-old woman, victim of a house fire died at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital on Sunday, leaving four children behind.

The house fire happened in Naselai, Nausori, on Monday May 22, after an alleged argument between the victim and her husband.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro: “On the 22nd of this month we received a report of a house fire in Naselai, Nausori. The house was occupied by a 52-year-old man, his 35-year-old wife and their four children,” Ms Naisoro said.

“It is alleged that during a heated argument, the 52-year-old started a fire which resulted in his wife sustaining burns.

“This also led to the entire home being engulfed in flames.”

Ms Naisoro also said the husband, now a suspect, and his wife were rushed to the CWM Hospital following the alleged incident.

She said the suspect remains admitted in a critical condition because he also suffered burns.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased, Nomai Voce, in Namoli Village, Labasa, are still in shock over what had happened.

Cries of anguish and murmurs of ‘Isa Lei’ could be heard inside their family home as relatives gathered to reminisce the life of Ms Voce.  “It all happened too fast and we are still trying to come into terms with what has happened,” an emotional cousin, Karalaini Tamani said.

Police investigations continue.
