A total of $313,893.12 was granted to three contractors for projects that would assist people living in remote areas with essential services.

The signing of agreements was held at the Office of the Prime Minister yesterday between the Permanent Secretary Yogesh Karan, Water Authority of Fiji, Telecom Fiji Limited and Upright Construction Limited.

Mr Karan said the signing of the agreement with the contractors was part of the Prime Minister’s commitment to respond to such needs.

“One of the agreements granted to Water Authority of Fiji is to ensure that the community will receive uninterrupted supply of clean water for the 293 people that will benefit from the assistance in Nakorokula village, Wai, Nadroga and Navosa,” Mr Karan said.

“This was a request made by the school during the Prime Minister’s visit. As you know the Office of the Prime Minister is fully committed to deliver this project, and the Prime Minister’s commitment to provide the best of resources.”

“The Water Authority of Fiji will upgrade the existing dam and storage tank, construct a new 45,460 litres Ferro-cement tank, lay around 6.7 kilometres of pipeline and install standard taps and showers to all homes.

“We will be closely monitoring this with the Construction Unit at the Ministry of Economy.”
