Police Probe Labasa Death Of A 67-Year-Old Truck Driver

The body of the man was retrieved by a team of Police officers underneath his neighbour’s truck’s tray.

Police are currently investigating the death of a 67-year-old truck driver in Vunivau, Labasa yesterday morning.

When Fiji Sun team arrived, Police officers were trying to retrieve Manik Chand’s body which was wedged between a tray and chassis of a neighbour’s truck.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said they had received a report on the case and Police investigations were ongoing.

“Yes there is a report and we are at the early stages of the investigations to determine the circumstances that led to the incident,” Ms Naisoro said.

“We will await the outcome of the post-mortem examination which will determine the cause of death.”

His family members are still trying to come to terms with the death.

His daughter-in-law Neetu Prasad said he was a very joyful and caring man. Mr Chand’s wife Vindra Wati was too distraught to talk to the media.

Mr Chand is survived by his wife, four children and seven grandchildren.
