‘It was amazing to see the amount of rubbish we have collected this morning; we have collected heaps of rubbish,’ said Westpac Bank area manager Fareena Chanel

Westpac Bank Area manager West Fareena Chanel yesterday urged picnickers at Saweni Beach to clean up after themselves as she led the bank staff on a clean-up of the beach.

“We must keep our beaches clean,” she said.

“This is a public place and when you come to the beach for a picnic, please do not throw your rubbish on the beach, take it with you.”

About 30 Westpac Bank staff members from Lautoka, Nadi, Namaka and Sigatoka collected rubbish and planted mangrove trees at the Saweni Beach in Lautoka.

“It was amazing to see the amount of rubbish we have collected this morning. We have collected heaps of rubbish,” Ms Chanel said.

Ms Chanel said the beaches and environment would be clean if the people who came to enjoy the beaches took their rubbish home or took the time to throw it into rubbish bins.

“Westpac Bank just celebrated their 200 years of service, so with that we have in co-operated in doing 200 hours of community work,” she said.

“Today we have Westpac Lautoka, Westpac Lautoka personal banking, Westpac Sigatoka, Namaka and Nadi branch staffs here to do this community work together with their families.”

Ms Chanel said similar initiatives were done by the Westpac Bank staff members around the country.
