Gravel To Be Placed To Help Against Weather

Vodafone Millennium Sinu Festival committee chairman, Awadh Sharma has confirmed that workers are putting gravel on the muddy grounds to help the festival during the wet weather.

Stall owners at the festival had expressed their disappointment with sales and the conditions of the ground since the opening on Saturday at Valelevu.

They had requested the festival committee do something about it.

In response Festival Mr Sharma said they understand and sympathise with the stall owners about the situation.

“We’ve had a meeting with the stall owners yesterday and we’re trying our best to put the gravel on the walkways and hope the weather improves,” he said.

“There’s nothing much we can do as the weather control is not in our hands; other festivals around the country during this time are facing the same situation.”

Vara Tikoitoga runs a stall with her fellow church youth members and it’s the first time they have set up a stall at the festival.

“Well, the sales haven’t been that good because of the rain, but we hope the weather clears up soon,” Ms Tikoitoga said.

The youth stall is selling fish in coconut cream (lolo), barbecue, cakes and pies.

Festival rides operators have not made much profit either due to the bad weather condition.

They also hope that the weather clears up soon.

Last night was the Queens Talent night with entertainment from the Japanese Dance Group, Chum Chum (Solo Dancer), Savuto and Hope Fiji.

The festival’s eight contestants are vying for the crown in the week-long event.

The festival concludes this Saturday.
