A 10-year-old Mohammed Azhaar of Labasa Muslim Primary School beamed with excitement when he received his first ever dictionary from the Rotary Club of Auckland Harbourside on Tuesday.

The youngster was among other Year Five students in the school who could now enjoy the use of such a resource specifically for him from the club.

“I am so happy that I now have received my first ever dictionary and I cannot wait to use it,” Mohammed said.

“When I grow up, I want to be a soldier and I will use this to help me pass my exams to achieve my dream.”

The other students shared similar sentiments thanking the team for considering them.

“This is an honour and we will study hard so we could one day be able to contribute to society as well,” says nine-year-old Luluta Ligairi.

And the students have been urged to learn as much as they could from the dictionaries distributed.

The Rotary Club of Auckland Harbourside president elect Jacqui Mathews-Haris said; “Study your dictionaries for it would be very useful.

“Learn as much as you can and you will succeed.”

The club services Director Ashwini Sadhu said that in some of the places they have attended to, the dictionary was the only book they had.

These dictionaries are printed, paid and distributed by the club.

The team from New Zealand includes the club’s president Harjeet Golian, the president elect Jacqui Mathews-Haris, club Services Director Ashwini Sadhu and their secretary Vidya Nand.

They are working closely with the Labasa Rotary Club for their visit in the North.

The team will be in the North until tomorrow.
