The fencing will deter people from trespassing and stealing: Headboy

A fence erected around the  Rakiraki District School (RDS) compound guarantees a safe learning environment to the school roll of 107 primary school students.

Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Mahendra Reddy made the comment after formally handing over the keys to the new teacher’s quarters at RDS.

The two MEHA projects had cost the ministry $40,000.00.

RDS headgirl, Year 8 Siteri Nasuwau was elated with the erection of the new fence.

“I have been schooling here since 2010, the fence makes us really feel safe,” Siteri  said,

Headboy Isimeli Vaciloa shared the same sentiments.

“We can go to our school garden at anytime because we are now safe,” Isimeli said.

“The fencing will deter people from trespassing and stealing. Now our school and everyone are safe,” he said.

The teacher’s quarters was burnt down in 2015. RDS was established in 1932.

The Education Minister thanked the RDS management, members of the vanua and parents for their contribution towards development of education.

The education ministry has assisted 46 schools since 2015.

“We have assisted schools which were neglected for so long because they were out of sight,” he said.

“The remote and the interior often get ignored from basic assistance. We now want to ensure that children from urban and rural areas get access to the same quality of Education, no matter where they are located.”
