What happened: Qaqa Namosi kept their hopes alive of securing a semifinal spot in the 2017 Skipper Cup competition after beating Jack’s Nadi 17-10 at Prince Charles Park yesterday.

Both teams had a slow and scrappy start in the first 20 minutes

Namosi regrouped and scored their first try through former national 7s rep Ilai Tinai who failed to kick the conversion.

This boosted the home side as they strengthen their attacking game and scored their opening try through Josateki Turuva, converted by first five eighth Sela Toga.

Namosi continue to build pressure as fullback Viliame Mavono kicked a penalty to lead 8-7 at halftime.

The home side lifted the intensity in the second half as they were able to counter the Namosi heavy pack.

Toga kicked a penalty but Namosi extended the lead through a penalty by  fullback Mavono.

With less than 10 minutes to play Namosi continue to apply pressure on Nadi and was awarded a penalty which was converted by Mavono.

The home side only had to blame themselves with poor execution in the lineouts on two occasions.

Another silly mistake from Nadi saw Mavono kicking another penalty.

Nadi applied the pressure at the final minute but was too late as Namosi held on to win.

Big Play: Mavono led the Namosi backline well and his tally of 12 points contributed to the win.

Star Turn: Nadi displayed brilliant attacking game at crucial moments.

Comments: Namosi assistant coach Akuila Nasi said; “I’m happy with our defence when we were under pressure towards the end.”

Nadi head coach Savenaca Aria said; “Namosi’s a strong team and deserved to win but credit to our new players for a brave show.”
