New Executive Members Set

The 52nd Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association’s Annual General meeting was a success, says FHTA Chief Executive Officer Fantasha Lockington.

The meeting was held at Radisson Blu Resort on Denarau Island on Friday.

Dixon Seeto who has been reappointed as president said the AGM went smoothly.

He added that there were strong support from all the members.


About FHTA:

Conceived in 1965,  it has grown from strength to strength in the past fifty years.

Similarly, membership has increased with time and now accounts for more than 80 percent of total room inventory in Fiji.


Below are the outcome of the meeting.

President- Dixton Seeto :

Dixon Seeto has worked for and held various senior positions in Air Pacific (now Fiji Airways), Tapa International Group of Companies, Blue Lagoon Cruises, Warwick International Hotels and has been with the Hexagon Group of Hotels since 2004.  He has served on many Boards mainly to do with travel and tourism.

He is the President of FHTA, Past President and current Director of the Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation, Board Member of Tourism Fiji, Chairman of the Tertiary Scholarships & Loans Board amongst other industry, national and community positions he has also been a Government Senator.

Dixon is a long serving Director and sits on several committees including ExCom.


Vice President- Brian Kirsch:

Brian Kirsch is standing for re-election as Vice President of the Association.

Brian has been an active member of the FHTA board since 2012 – currently representing Robinson Crusoe Island Resort where he is a company Director.

He is also a company Director for Fiji Gateway Hotel and Plantation Island Resort.

Brian chairs the IR, HR, and Marketing subcommittees and is a member of the FRCA and Proprietary Rights subcommittees.

He is a former Chair and current Treasurer of the FHTA Mamanuca Chapter. He has been appointed to represent employers on the Employment Relations Advisory Board (ERAB) and the Employer Panel of the Arbitration Court.


Vice President- Anthony Acland :

Anthony ‘Tony’ Acland was originally born in the U.K. and grew up in Cornwall.

After a successful career at sea he set up his first business in Fiji with co-owner Kelly Acland called Taveuni Palms Resort.

This resort was a 5 star private luxury resort catering to honeymooners, family holidays and trips of a life time.

In 2014 Tony became General Manager at Captain Cook Cruises Fiji where he has overseen a successful fleet renovation program and increase in the company’s business.

As the Chair for the FHTA Marine Operators Subcommittee, he has been able to utilise his maritime and local knowledge to assist in dealing with issues raised by the industry.

Tony is now a Fiji Citizen.



Gerard Knight :

Gerard Knight was Degree trained in Hospitality Management within the UK graduating in 1998.

He is further qualified as a Certified Practicing Accountant in Australia, graduating in 2000.

Having worked in most positions within a hotel, he has focused mainly in recent years in Finance and General Management roles.

Having worked in various hotels across England and Australia, he has been in Fiji as General Manager at the Radisson Blu Resort Fiji, Denarau Island for almost 5 years.

Gerard has served four years on the board of FHTA already serving on various FHTA Subcommittees including Industrial Relations, FRCA and Marketing with the last three years being at Executive level.


Tarun Patel:

Tarun Patel is the Director of Strategic Planning & Business Development for Vision Investments Limited, a role he has held since 2014 and has been closely involved in the Sonaisali Doubletree Resort & Hilton Fiji Beach Resort project.   He currently oversees the Groups Human Resources Department, Corporate B2B Business for Courts, Mahogany Industries, Tadrai Island Resort and Dhobys.

Previously, Tarun served as the Group CEO of Fiji Television Limited between November 2008 to August 2013.


Ravinder Dhesi:

Ravinder Dhesi is responsible for the day to day operations of the Sheraton Fiji Resort & Sheraton Denarau Villas ensuring Sheraton’s standards of service delivery are executed to exceed guests’ expectations.

Ravinder has been with Starwood for 18 years and has worked in Australia and Fiji.

For the last 8 years in Fiji he has held various roles such as Director of Finance and Hotel Manager for the Westin brand.

Ravinder holds a Bachelor of Business and is a Certified Practicing Accountant with CPA Australia.

His focus is to develop local talent to take up management roles in the Fijian hospitality industry and work with the industry to continue its growth.


William Whiting:

William (Bill) Whiting has been involved in Fiji Tourism for 33 years, as Regional Director Australia, then Director of Marketing, Fiji Visitors Bureau, now as a shareholder in Treasure Island Ltd and Global Bed Bank Ltd.

Bill is a Fiji citizen committed to the development of a sustainable tourism industry for Fiji and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the FHTA Board.

His present positions include Chairman of the Treasure Island Ltd and Global BedBank Ltd, Chairman of Trustees for the Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards, Treasurer and Member of the TAG Marketing Subcommittee and past Treasurer and Board Member of the FHTA, Chair of the FHTA Environment Subcommittee and Member of the FHTA Marketing Subcommittee.


Peter Hopgood:

Peter has worked in the hospitality industry for 35 years, 7 ½years as General Manager for Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort.

He is a board member of the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association and also Chairman of the Coral Coast chapter.

Prior to coming to Fiji, Peter was General Manager of some of the biggest resorts in Australia, including the 1,000 room Hamilton Island Resort and the 5 star luxury Grand Hotel.

He has been General Manager of 9 resorts over the past 25 years.

In 2015 Peter was acknowledged as South Pacific General Manager of the Year at the HM Awards in Australia.

In 2016 Peter was acknowledged at the Fiji Tourism Awards as Tourism Leader for 2015.


Peter Gee:

Appointed General Manager of Grand Pacific Hotel in July 2015, Peter Gee is a graduate of the William Angliss Institute.

He holds an Advanced Certificate in Business Administration from University of Hong Kong and is certified as a Hotel Administrator by the American Hotels & Motels Association. A seasoned hotel and tourism professional, Gee served for five years on the Executive Committee of the Australian Hotel Association (NSW) Accommodation Division and is a former Chairman of Tourism Holiday Coast Regional Tourism Organisation.

Prior to his appointment at GPH, he spent nine years at the helm of Stamford Plaza Auckland. During this period he was the recipient of HM Magazines “New Zealand Hotel General Manager of the Year” award.
