Minister Opens New $70k Block

Industrial Arts students of South Taveuni Secondary School will now enjoy learning in a newly opened block specifically constructed for them.
The new industrial arts workshop block was on Thursday commissioned by the Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy much to the delight of the faculty.
School Principal Dharam Jit Singh said the students would not have to use empty classrooms anymore as they now had a block dedicated for their classes.
“This block was sponsored by the Ministry for Education and is valued at about $70,000,” Mr Singh said.
He said the school community greatly appreciated the work that was being carried out by the Government to ensure quality education for their school and other schools from other parts of the country.
Mr Singh said that the school which was one of the worst affected during Tropical Cyclone Winston last year was getting back on its feet.
“All the students are in their classrooms now, there are 11 streams in total,” Mr Singh said.
He said despite the setback when TC Winston ploughed through their school last year, the student body of 239 was not disheartened but performed to their level best.
He said the school was one of the top performing schools in Cakaudrove last year.
