The Fiji Police Force is looking into allegations of the stoning of new buses that service the Kings and Queens roads around Viti Levu.

Pacific Transport Limited Lautoka branch manager Jaswant Kumar said: “We are really worried after what has happened. In only two weeks, two incidents have happened.”

Mr Kumar said the two buses that were stoned were new buses brought into the country three weeks ago.

“First incident happened in Lovu, Lautoka, at around 9pm. The driver was coming to garage after dropping off the passengers when someone threw the stone at the bus,” he said.

“Luckily there were no passengers in the bus.”

Mr Kumar said the second incident happened last Friday.

“One of our buses was going towards Ba from Suva when the incident happened,” he said.

“When the bus reached Velovelo in Lautoka at around 7:45pm, someone stoned the bus.”

The bus express service around Viti Levu is provided by two main companies – Pacific Transport and Sunbeam Transport.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro was concerned with the safety of the drivers and passengers and the possibility of operators withdrawing their services.

“Those doing this need to stop and think of the potential harm it could inflict on those travelling in the bus and on the driver who could possibly get involved in an accident,” Ms Naisoro said.

“Such action could affect services as the operator could rightfully put the welfare and safety of their driver and passengers first.”

Ms Naisoro said they were investigating.
