Organisers Defer Labasa Fete

The Pinto Industries Duavata Crime Prevention Carnival has been postponed from June 30 to next month.
This was confirmed on Saturday by the carnival committee president, Satish Kumar.
“The week-long carnival was scheduled for the end of this month but due to the unavailability of the Subrail Park ground in Labasa we had to move to next month,” Mr Kumar said.
“The dates of the festival haven’t been confirmed yet as we are still in discussions.”
He said the launch of the carnival would be held in two weeks time.
“As for the contestants, we have eight queens, five kings, six teens and five princesses,” he said.
“The Police Commissioner, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, will be the chief guest at the closing of the carnival.”
He said the Police Band which was one of the highlights of the festival annually would be taking part.
“This is the sixth year of the carnival and we are thankful for Pinto Industries Limited for their continuous support,” he said.
When questioned about this year’s committee project and target of funds to be achieved, Mr Kumar said he could not reveal this now.
“The aim of the carnival is to raise awareness on crime prevention,” he said.
“This is where all the contestants will use the platform to talk on various issues related to crime and how we, as a community, can work together to prevent crime.”
