Stamps launched yesterday depict the Fijian-Made and crafted products by Fijian women.

The new stamps were launched by the President, Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote, First Lady Sarote Konrote and Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation  Mereseini Vuniwaqa at the third National Women’s Expo.

President Konrote said the stamps aimed to celebrate and enhance the National Women’s Expo at the Vodafone Arena in Suva

“This is a great marketing strategy that will go a long way in promoting authentic traditional Fijian arts and handicraft through postal stamps.

“This initiative is a viable tool for the empowerment of Fijian women made possible through the support of Post Fiji, especially in championing the Fijian-Made trademark.

“Also in line with this initiative, I am aware of the publication of a Catalogue for our women artisans and their products.

“Like the Commemorative Postal Stamp, the Catalogue will provide significant exposure for our women and for Fijian-made products within our shores and beyond,” President Konrote said.

Mrs Vuniwaqa said the stamps are a way of acknowledging the importance of the National Women’s Expo to the national landscape.

“It is an awareness platform because the stamps are used to send letters overseas and that is the market we are trying to target.

“It is a way of enhancing for the rural women the marketing of their products,” Mrs Vuniwaqa said.
