Mulomulo Boxing Club’s boxer Shamal Ramanuj wants to follow the footsteps of his grandfather, the late Rama Nuj.

His grandfather was Fiji’s bantamweight champion during the 1950s.

“I want to be a champion like my grandfather who was also a product of the Mulomulo Boxing Club,” said the 24-year old boxer who turned professional two years ago.

He is looking forward to the Canada Fiji Southern Boxing Promotions programme on June 30 where he will fight Sheik Rizwan in the 6 x 3 minute bout.

His manager Chanchal Kumar Baba said  Ramanuj is training very hard.

“We are looking forward to this fight as this will not go beyond the third round,” Baba said.

Ramanuj is training under the watchful eyes of former heavyweight Ulaiasi Naivogo and Baba.

“He has taken his preparation to another level and having sparred with Siliveni Nawai has give him the needed edge. All we can say is that he will do the talking in the ring.”

Ramanuj in his last professional fight defeated Ronald Kumar and Vicky Ram both with KO in the first rounds.

Baba thanked their major sponsors Mana Flyer Fiji Limited who has been promoting the sport in Mulomulo areas including Tubenasolo in the highlands of Nadi.
