Craft Licence Pleases Wati, 67

Daya Wati, 67, of Rakiraki House Assistance & Relief Trust (HART) had a big smile on her face when she received her first Fijian Craft Licence yesterday.

She received her licence for doormats she makes every day as her only income during the third Fiji National Women’s Expo 2017 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

Ms Wati said since she started living in the hart, she had learned a lot of different crafts from the other women living near her house which is why she was able to receive her license today.

“I am blessed to receive my licence to sell my doormats without any hesitation or questions raised by others who think my business is not legal,” she said.

“After my husband passed away and my children got married I lived on my own, I moved to the hart thinking I could be able to do something on my own and earn for myself.

“My children do take care of me but the finances I get from selling the doormats help me to travel to town and buy groceries and other much needed items for myself.”

The expo was her first and she said she enjoyed every moment of it.

“I was encouraged by the social welfare people to take part and showcase my products at the expo and I am glad to take part as I have earned a lot of money for myself and also made some new friends whom I had so much fun with.

“The expo was something for me to reflect on when I am home,” Ms Wati said.
