MASTI Dance Group Offers Lessons For Beginners

MASTI Arts and Dance Group will start their first dance lessons for beginners on Monday, June 19.

This was confirmed by the group’s director and choreographer, Amit Ashween Chand.

He said: “Our government wants a film industry to flourish in Fiji with their 47 per cent Tax Rebate while our Department of Culture, Arts and Heritage aims to foster a vibrant and viable performing arts sector in Fiji.

“With over nine years of professionally dancing in Fiji, MASTI aims to add and support this vision.”

The beginners dance classes for kids and adults will be conducted at three different venues – Suva, Nadi and Nakasi.

“Classes commence Monday June 19 and runs for 7 weeks every Monday to Thursday for a total value of $160,” Mr Chand said.

“Suva classes are at Patel Samaj Hall, Toorak, FijiLife Fitness Gym, Martintar in Nadi and Hanuman Gadh, 9 Miles in Nakasi.

“Kids’ classes are from 4 to 5pm and adult classes are from 5.30pm to 6.30pm in Suva and Nakasi and 5pm to 6pm in Nadi.”

The MASTI beginners dance workshop aims to introduce participants to a varying genre of dance styles like Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, Indian Folk and Semi Classical with Bollywood being its core.

MASTI recently sent three of their members with director Chand to train for three months at Terence Lewis Professional Training Institute in Mumbai, India, with the help of sponsors like Indian High Commission, Ministry of Youths and self-funding.
