Cuvu College Under-18 rugby team remain favourites to win the Western Secondary Schools Rugby Union competition after walloping Ratu Navula College 18-3 at Ratu Navula School grounds, Nadi yesterday.

The Nadroga school started strongly in the first half by converting two penalties through Douglas Daveta and Ratu Navula only managed a penalty through halfback Osea Waqa as they trailed 3-6 at the breather.

Cuvu College applied the pressure as they dominated possession in the second half seeing Jolame Tukilakila scoring a double while Tunoa Meo was successful with a conversion.

Cuvu College principal Navneet Mishra said community support towards the school has been their biggest boost this season.

“The support from parents, guardians and our community has been awesome. We want to thank God for the victory and the boys performed well.

“This is not the end we’ll continue to work hard as we take on Natabua in the next round.”

RNC principal Setareki Merekula was impressed with their performance.

“The WSSRU has decided for the four schools to play together this season because we have seen this has strengthened the competition and raised the level of play as well.

“I can see improvement from the level of competition from our players in terms of their skills,” Merekula said.
