The Qelewaqa minimart shop owner is calling on motorists and the public to stop dumping their rubbish illegally every time they approach the Qelewaqa bridge in Labasa.

Shop owner Sunil Narayan said he had seen how many motorists would stop by or on the bridge and throw over their trash bags beside the bridge or into the river.

“This has happened for the past two months where I have seen drivers in cars and lorries slow down and their trash bags would be thrown over the bridge,” he said.

“Motorists need to put a stop to this because it is happening frequently.”

Mr Narayan is also requesting the Police and relevant authorities to come to Qelewaqa to see the problem and hopefully take to task those irresponsible Fijian citizens.

“When it rains heavily all that rubbish and other debris block the bridge and cause flooding near the shop,” Mr Narayan said.
